Ronald Kent

April 22, 1938 — September 8, 2015

On September 8, 2015 Ronald William Kent, 77, of Grain Valley, MO passed away at Centerpoint Medical Center, after a decade of fighting illness. Despite terrible prognoses during these years, Ron kept impressing everyone with his resilience and continued smiles. His last week in the hospital may be a perfect epilogue of his life, reflecting how nonchalantly tough he was and how very loved he is. He was surrounded by those who loved & cared for him throughout the past week.

On April 22, 1938, Ron & his twin brother Roger were born in London, England to William and Anne (Williams) Kent. Ron came to America in 1954 & worked as a brick mason for several decades. Soccer played an important part of his life. He was a devoted follower of the Stoke City Football Club. His children fondly remember Ron listening & cheering to the games broadcast on the radio. He was delighted over the last decade as soccer’s popularity grew in the United States & he was able to watch these games on TV. Ron was a youth coach & played soccer himself until the age of 63. Ron had a tremendous amount of love that he shared with animals, friends and family. Throughout his life, Ron made everyone he met feel like an instant friend.

Ron was widowed by his first wife, Patricia (Garrett) Kent and second wife, Diana (Tucker) Kent. He was also preceded in death by his father William Kent, mother Anne (Williams) Kent, and half-sister Margaret Oakley.

Ron is survived by his children, Stacey Eddy, of Greenwood, MO, Geoff Kent of Olathe, KS, Carroll Smith of Independence, MO and Wendolyn Kent of Canton, GA; twin brother, Roger Kent, of New Orleans, LA; 11 grandchildren; Heather Allen, Cory Allen, Tyler Allen, Michael Kent, Sabrina Stiles, Audrey Eddy, Leigh-Anne Bartlett, Payton Eddy, Cheyenne Smith, Charlotte Kent, Emma Smith, along with five great-grandchildren and many friends.

A visitation will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence, on Monday, Sept. 14, from 4-6pm. A memorial service will follow at 6pm Monday at the chapel.
