Kim Howard "Dusty" Kepferle

July 22, 1952 — September 27, 2024

Kim Howard "Dusty" Kepferle, 72 of Independence, MO is on the road again. He passed away on September 27th with his son by his side. His parents, Kenneth Kepferle and Irma Kepferle preceded him as did his granddaughters, Kierstyn and Kayla and his former wife, Marie Mingo. He is survived by his son, Clint Kepferle and grandchildren, Vincent, Kaiya, Keyonna, and Klarissa Kepferle and four great grandchildren, Vincent, Owen, and Nora with another expected. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra McCollum, and nephews, Shawn and James McCollum and his step-mother, Constance Kidd. There are many other cousins, nieces and nephews scattered across the country. He is a descendant of the Stuart kings of Scotland.

Dusty was a 1970 graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School and lived in the metro area all of his life. For much of his career he was a dynamite engineer and known for the quality of his work. His greatest love was motorcycles, and he traveled the central and western US on his Harley attending the Sturgis rally several times. He hunted, fished and rode horses and spent many many hours on his father's farm—sometimes just hanging out and other times helping with the horses, garden or building fence. His very early work was at The Mission Press in Merriam helping to produce his father's newspaper "The Suburban". Dusty said, “his life was always fun and if that meant I had to die of cancer then so be it".

Dusty was well liked and always willing to help out or to give you a bad time. He helped care for several people in their final illnesses. He especially liked teaching younger bikers how to ride safely to avoid accidents.

He navigated his final illness with grace and dignity. His passing leaves a large void and he will be deeply missed.

Celebration of life will be Saturday, October 5th at The Wright Place 13912 East Noland Court, Suite B, Independence MO and will begin at noon. Casual attire with motorcycles welcome.

The family suggests donations to the charity of your choice or the White Oak Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Gary Doll, 31 SW K Hwy, Urich, MO 64788.
