Dixie J. King, 90, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, February 17th at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, February 22nd at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Monday, February 21st in the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Food Pantry. Dixie was born June 25, 1914 in Denison, TX to Charles and Leona (Halsey) Buchanan. She lived for some time in both Orlando, FL and Beaumont, TX before living the last 27 years in Independence, MO. Dixie retired from Ben Franklin Store at the age of 80 after 22 years of service. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and had previously attended Bethel Baptist Church. She volunteered in the food pantry at the church, taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. Dixie also sang in the Blue River-Kansas City Baptist Associational Choir. Surviving Dixie include a son, James R. McDonald, Jr., Marshall, MO; daughter and son-in-law Judith and Ronald Price of Independence, MO; son and daughter-in-law Glen E. and Wanda King of Beaumont, TX; 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; several cousins. She was preceded in death by a half-sister, Welcome M. Sheehan.
