Margaret King

Margaret Davis King died July 15, 2010, in Springfield, Mo. She was 96 years old, having been born January 24, 1914, in Bevier, Mo., to George Davis and Harriet Lilley Davis. Margaret was a baker's daughter and worked in a Kansas City bakery where she met her husband, Grover King. The couple married Dec. 11, 1936. They built a home in Independence, Mo., and continued there more than 50 years. Margaret and Grover were blessed with a daughter, Diane, in 1945 and a son, Gregory, in 1953. Margaret was a homemaker, seamstress, baker and musician. She sang at church and for wedding and funerals and many times as a young woman she sang on Kansas City radio stations amateur nights. She loved camping and fishing. She was a member of the South Chrysler Restoration Branch. Margaret is survived by two brothers: George Davis, Overland Park, KS; and Glen Davis, Solvang, CA; a daughter, Diane Stampfel, Liberty, MO; a son, Greg King, Nixa, MO; two grandsons, Steven Lockington, Orlando, FL; and Ryan King, Nixa, MO; four granddaughters: Michelle Maksimik, Liberty, MO; Jennifer King, Columbia, MO; Jeanette Ward, Las Vegas, NV; and Emily King, Nixa, MO; and 7 great-grandchildren: Ariana Lockington, California, MD; Colin King, Las Vegas, NV; Harrison Maksimik, Liberty, MO; Sydney Ward, Las Vegas, NV; Lindsey King, Columbia, MO; Jordan Ward, Las Vegas, NV; and Halle Maksimak, Liberty, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover King. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at South Chrysler Restoration Branch. Interment of the ashes will occur at a later date at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. Steve Smith and Mark Ballantyne will officiate. They will read two of Margaret's poems, "Mary Remember the Cross, the Grave, the Victory," and "At the End of the Path." Carol Turner will play the organ. The congregation will sing "The Old, Old Path," "Earnestly, Tenderly Jesus is Calling," and "He Leadeth Me." In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Community Hospice of America Foundation, Inc., 1465 E. Primrose, Suite A Springfield, MO 65804.
