Jack J. Kirk, 86 of Independence, MO passed away, Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his residence. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Kansas City Hospice. Jack was born December 24, 1924 in Crescent Lake, MO to Charles and Bessie (Jackson) Kirk. He grew up in that area graduating from Excelsior Springs High School in 1943. Following graduation he joined the Army and proudly served in WWII in the European Theatre. He was married to Bernita Fink in 1948 and they enjoyed 59 years together until her passing in 2007. They moved to Independence where they raised their family. He worked for the GM Fairfax Plant for 32 years before he retired in 1978. After retirement he co-owned and operated All Purpose Kaps for several years. In retirement he and his wife enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the country on bus tours. He also enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, the McDonald Masonic Lodge #324 AF&AM and the UAW #31 in Kansas City, KS.. Survivors include; 3 children, Karen Finke and husband Ron and Michael Kirk and wife Gayle all of Independence, MO and David Kirk and wife Denise of Overland Park, KS; 4 grandchildren, Greg Finke and wife Mindi of Independence, MO, Joseph Finke and wife Whitney of Oak Park, IL, Elizabeth Scholes and husband Conor of Independence, MO and Melissa Talley and husband Matthew of Edgerton, KS; 3 great grandchildren and one due the end of September. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Charles, Edwin and William and a sister, Sarah Ann Irons.
