Susan Anne Kisslinger, 70, Independence, MO died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 2 pm, Sat., March 19, 2011 at the Community of Christ Walnut Gardens Congregation, 19201 RD Mize Rd. Independence, MO 64057. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Salvation Army, 14700 E. Truman Rd, Independence, MO 64050 or the charity of your choice.
Susan was born Jan. 21, 1941 in Independence, MO. She attended Graceland University and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Masters degree in English literature. She taught English literature and was later the head librarian at William Chrisman High School in Independence until her retirement. She was a longtime active member of, and later became Elder at, the Community of Christ Congregation at Walnut Gardens. Susan was involved in all aspects of the church throughout her membership and offered her help readily whenever needed. She enjoyed exploring new restaurants with her friends, watching hummingbirds from her kitchen window, going to museums, watching art house movies, collecting fine art, following the latest fashion trends and, of course, her beloved kitty cats.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Stanley C. Withee in 2005 and Merile Withee in 1991. She is survived by her two sons Eric Kisslinger and wife Jackie, Mill Valley, CA; Kim Kisslinger, Bayport, NY; sister Kathleen Dinius and husband Gary Fandel, Soldatna, AK; brother Carl Withee and wife Jean, Gaithersburg, MD; niece Ginger Withee and nephew Jeffrey Withee.
