Eleanor Knight

Eleanor M. Knight, 87, of Independence, Mo passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Groves Care Center. A memorial service for this loving mother is being planned for a date when all three of her children can be together. Inurnment at Mound Grove Cemetery.

Eleanor was born on March 28, 1923 in San Francisco, CA. Her growing up years were spent in California and Minnesota. Her formal professional education began at the former Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing, and was completed at Kansas City General Hospital. Before moving to California she worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in the medical division. In Sacramento, CA she worked at Sutter General Hospital until she returned to college to receive her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1965. Following graduation she worked as the In-Service Director at American River Hospital until her retirement. Eleanor was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. She served as an Assistant Chaplin at the Independence Regional Medical Center and the Community of Christ Temple. She spent years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and served as staff nurse for youth camps.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Darrell. They were happily married for 59 years.

She is survived by her three sons, Stephen Knight and wife Susan, Independence, MO; David Knight and wife Tracy, Sacramento, CA, and John Knight and wife Renee, Shelton, WA, five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
