L.D. “Cody” Koirtyohann, 64, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital �" Plaza, following a valiant battle with cancer. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2008 at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Cody was born March 6, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to Louis Monroe and Mary Jayne (Rinehart) Koirtyohann. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1962, attended William Jewell College and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Cody was a very talented and successful trim carpenter. On August 12, 1977 Cody was united in marriage to Barbara Hale Hancock at Christ United Methodist Church. Mr. Koirtyohann was a member of the Forum Covenant Group and the Journeymen Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara Koirtyohann; daughter Cindy Hancock Koirtyohann and partner Saul Ramos; and Hobo, his constant companion. Also surviving are his sister, Karen Stevens; in-laws Madeline and Kenneth Hale; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill and Angie Hale, Ken and Roxanne Hale; nieces and nephews Jennifer and Kevin Kretzschmar, Allison and Clark McGeary, Sarah and Jeff Hayes, Pete Stevens, Jon and Stacy Stevens, Jay and Angie Stevens; great-nieces and nephews Bailey, Alexa, Mahala, and Cecila Stevens, Timothy and Kenneth Kretzschmar, and Reese McGeary. The family wishes to acknowledge the many acts of love and kindness that supported them through Cody’s illness and especially the care provided to him by the doctors and staff at St. Luke’s Health System and at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Our dear Cody, you will be in our hearts forever, and you will be near us as your star shines brightly in the heavens.
