Dennis Kunkle, 60, of Independence MO passed away Thursday, March 28th 2013. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Monday, April 1st at Carson Speaks Chapel; 1501 W Lexington Ave Independence. Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. A private burial will be held at a later time.
Dennis was born July 31st 1952 in New Kensington, PA to Ira Calvin and Elizabeth (Worthington) Kunkle. He was one of four children. He graduated from Valley High School where he was a star football player and immediately joined the Air Force. After an honorable discharge Dennis joined Carpenters Local Union 1329. He would later work as a Carpenter Foreman for many companies including, Commercial Foundations and JE Dunn Construction. His latest big project was as foreman for the Graceland Nursing Arts Building in 1997. Dennis was a strong Christian man who attended many churches including First Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he married his wife of 30 years, Bette (Griswold). He was passionate about motorcycles and enjoyed interstate riding trips with his wife including Sturgis, Thunder in the Sand, and camping at Buckhorn, MO just to name a few. Dennis and Bette are members of the Moose Lodge 2414 of Independence, where he was President of the Moose Riders. Together, they raised two foster girls; eventually adopting their daughter, Lisa. His family describes him as an “amazing family caretaker” as well as a “helper and a giver”. Dennis is loved and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Bette of the home; daughter, Lisa Booms; and granddaughter Shelby of Cheyenne, WY; brother Bob Kunkle and wife Judy of Georgetown, TX; sister, Sandi Shindledecker and husband Bill of PA; brother, Bill Kunkle of Independence, MO and his mother. He was preceded in death by his father and by one grandson, Justin Booms who passed in 2005. In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions to The Blessing of the Bikes at Moose Heart c/o Moose Lodge 2414; 2537 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64129.
