Delbert Glynn Lackey, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 6, 2010.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Delbert was born with his twin brother Everett in Harrison, AR on February 22, 1926 to William Roan and Josie (Kilgore) Lackey. He was one of 13 brothers and sisters. They moved to Kansas City where at the age of 17 he joined the Navy in 1944. During WWII he served as a Coswainbosan’s Mate aboard the Aircraft Carrier Escort, USS Kwajalein CVE98. After the war, he returned to Kansas City to work for G.A.F. until 1981 for 34 years.
Delbert was preceded in death by his wife Dorris Jean White in 1997; 11 siblings and a great grandson, Christian.
Survivors include his brother, Lee R. Lackey, Sr of Osceola; six children, Lee (Debbie) Lackey, Jr; Deborah Lackey-Sterne; Carolyn (Bobby) Johnson; Ricky G. (Debbie) Lackey, Larry D. (Stacey) Lackey; Randall G. (Anita) Lackey; 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; numerous nieces nephews. His little friend and companion D.J. preceded him in death one week ago.
