Ruby Lee Lackey, 90, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at her home. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, March 20 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 21 at the chapel with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Ruby was born Feb. 10, 1919 in Conway, AR to Albert and Hilda (Elsener) Marshall. She married Daniel Franklin Lackey and together raised three daughters. Ruby worked for the Ford Motor Co. during WWII, then at Russell Stovers, and as an Avon Representative for 14 years, in addition to being a homemaker. She was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church in Independence. Ruby took pride in doing yard work, hand weeding and mowing ¾ of an acre herself. She was a strong woman who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Daniel F. Lackey and daughter Donna J. Ethington. She is survived by her friend Bill Meyers; two daughters: Ruby Lee Standiford and Judy L. Hutsell; seven grandchildren: Donna “Punkin”, Teresa, Brenda, Tommy, Luke, Jeni, and Danny; 13 great-grandchildren: Tim, Kelli, Jeremy, Genesis, Joshua, April, Rachel, Travis, Shyanne, Caleb, Trever, Lily, and Owen; 15 great-great-grandchildren: Katelynn, Tristynn, Brennon, Sydni, Zane, Jackson, Micah, Austin, Leah, Joey, Timbra, Johnni, Toby, Tanner, and Hunter; and her toy poodle Marlo.
