Lewis E. Landsberg, 93, Independence, MO, passed March 31, 2010 following a long illness. Visitation from 6-8pm Thurs., April 8, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Services 10:00am Friday at the chapel Burial to follow at Md Grove Cemetery. Contributions to Alzheimer’s Assoc. Born in Independence and raised on a farm in Bonner Springs, KS. During the 1930’s Lewis briefly attended Park College and later Kansas State University with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at K State and met the love of his life, Irene Esther Shriver, there. He took a position with the US Dept of Agriculture and was the youngest Farm Agent in the State of Kansas at the time. A few years later he felt a calling to enter the ministry and became a lifelong appointee with what is now The Community of Christ Church. He served as Bishop in Lamoni, Iowa, Far West Stake, Michigan, Southeastern and Far West regions. Lewis pursued a Masters Degree in sociology at Tulane University while living in the south. Always active, after his official church retirement he served on the Blue Springs Planning and Zoning Commission for many years, was president of the Sunset Optimist Club, and active in the implementation of the Just Say No Drugs Program in the Blue Springs Community. He was also instrumental in reviving the Lake Village Homeowners Assoc. and furthering many community causes. He is survived by his wife, Irene, two sons, Dean and Kent, their wives Jerri and Sue respectively, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.
