Genevieve Lanphear, 100 of Independence, MO passed away, Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m., until service time Sunday at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 or to the First Christian Church of Independence, MO 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050. Genevieve was born January 29, 1913 in Oak Grove, MO to John G. and Anna May (Hightower) Day and has been a lifelong area resident. She enjoyed sewing, bird watching, traveling and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She had worked as a sales clerk for JC Penney’s from 1942 until she retired in 1979. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Independence and the Christian Women’s Fellowship at the church. She was also a member of the Independence Saddle Club. She was married to Charles A. Lanphear, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1986. Survivors include; a son, Charles “Chuck” Lanphear III and his wife Susan of Independence, MO; a sister, Viola Campbell of Odessa, MO and two grandchildren, Chase and Lexie and many nieces and nephews.
