Lavonna Elaine Bowers, 89, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm, Monday, July 20th, 2026, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A graveside service will take place at 11:00am, Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.

Lavonna was born on March 18,1937 in Forbes, Missouri. She met her husband, John, while he was stationed in TX, while she was working as an airline hostess. They knew they were meant to be together and were married in Kansas City 9 months later, from their union came 2 sons. After leaving Continental Airlines, Lavonna worked doing secretarial work for AT&T, retiring after 23 years of service. In her spare time Lavonna enjoyed watching television and was a movie buff.

Lavona is survived by her sons, Todd Bowers of Garden City, MO and Terry (Lori) Bowers of Blue Springs, MO; as well as his two grandchildren, Garrett and Caitlin; extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband John A. Bowers and her parents
