Charles Webb “Charlie” Lay, Jr., 80, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, June 13, 2008 at Carmel Hills Living Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Carson Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Charles was born September 7, 1927 in Higginsville, MO to Charles Webb and Hilda (Schnackenberg) Lay, Sr. Mr. Lay proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired in 1984 from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service. His two daughters were the light of his life! He enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating and spending time at the cabin. Mr. Lay loved traveling with his family and had taken several trips to Europe with his daughter Becky. Charlie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda (Sage) Lay; daughters Cathy Lay, Becky Tucker and husband Brett; grandchildren Corey McBain, Cameron Tucker; aunt Darline Lawton; four nephews, six nieces; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Doris Miller.
