Nellie M. Leach (Reed)

November 7, 1918 — April 12, 2015

Nellie M. Shipman Leach, 96, of Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, April 17th at Carson-Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Nellie was born November 7, 1918 to Mitchel H. and Affie A. (Moore) Reed. She grew up working hard on the farm and that work ethic followed her to Blue Rooster Café where she started as a cook and eventually became Assistant Manager. She married Richard Leach on July 9, 1971 and they enjoyed fishing, and traveling together until his death in 2014. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, playing penny slots at the casinos, and cooking for her beloved family. They remember her as hospitable, friendly, loving and full of good advice.
She is survived by son, Billy J. Shipman, Sr. (Marjorie) of Odessa, MO; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; brother, Chester C. Reed of Colorado Springs, CO; and brother, Audie C. Reed of Bridgeman, MI. She was preceded in death by son, Bobby Lee Shipman; four brothers; and five sisters.
