Janice A. Leaming, 82, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away April 3, 2015. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 pm Friday, April 10, 2015 at Floral Hills Cemetery. Janice was born January 2, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas. The family moved to Independence, MO in 1937. Her first spouse, Ted Leaming preceded her in death on January 2, 1995. Janice retired from the Independence School District in 1986, after teaching in Missouri 30 years. The year after retiring she taught at Jean’s Private Kindergarten in Independence until health problems forced her to quit. She is a member and past secretary of the Independence Retired Teachers. She was also a member of Missouri State Retired Teachers, Missouri State Teachers Association and past member of the National Education Association. She went eight years to Rock Creek Elementary School and graduated in 1950 from William Chrisman High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, and was a member of Alpha Phi Delta there. She received a Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. On December 1, 2001 she married John M. Brittain, he too preceded her in death. Her survivors include a brother Danny Jipsen and wife Judy, of Lee’s Summit, a daughter, two grandchildren, one great grandson, and a niece.
