Carl E. Lemonds, Sr., 93, Independence, MO passed away Oct. 18, 2008. Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm, Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens in Independence. Visitation will be 1-2 pm preceding the service at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.
Carl was born the fourth of twelve children on May 25, 1915 in Caruthersville, MO. After he served in the U.S. Army, he worked for many years as an auto mechanic for the Federal Government. During a stint at Richards-Gebauer Air Force Base, he chauffeured many dignitaries and once met President Truman. He was a member of Coventry Estates Baptist Church for over thirty-five years. Carl had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife Vera Lemonds in 2003 and eleven brothers and sisters �" he was the last of twelve children to pass away. He is survived by his daughter Carleen Lee and husband Harlan, Spring, TX; son Carl E. Lemonds, Jr. and wife Char, Austin, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Bonnie Watts, Independence, MO; sister-in-law Frances Cook, Caruthersville, MO; grandchildren Lisa and Mike; and several great-grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Carl’s friend and caregiver, Deverine Hostetler, for her devotion and loving care.
