Alice Lee Lenning, 64 of Blue Springs, MO passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Blue Springs, MO. Inurnment will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made in her name to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure, Greater Kansas City Affiliate. Alice was born June 19, 1946 in Everett, WA to Donald and Mabel Grace (Kitley) Gustafson. She graduated Eagle Grove IA High School in 1964 before attending and graduating with a BA in Spanish from Luther College in Decorah, IA. She had worked as an ESL and Spanish teacher in the Blue Springs and Fort Osage school district for a number of years before she retired in 2003. She was also a mentor for at risk teens at Blue Springs High Schools. Alice enjoyed playing cards with her canasta group, taking care of friends and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Richard Lenning. Other survivors include; a daughter, Amy Robinson and her husband Kenneth of Blue Springs, MO; a son, Eric Lenning and his wife Sharon of Plainfield, IL; a brother, Larry Peterson of Creston, IA; a sister, Corinne Mikos of Ft. Dodge, IA; 3 grandchildren, Nathaniel Jacob Lenning, Ethan Michael Lenning and Maya Grace Robinson, 4 nephews and 3 nieces.
