Barbara Letterman

Barbara Jean Letterman, 62, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away on April 11, 2011 at home surrounded by family and friends. Barbara Jean Watkins Letterman was born on September 13, 1948 in Independence, Missouri to Robert and Florence (Elston) Watkins. Barb spent her early years in Independence, Missouri, graduating from Truman High School in 1966. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Central Missouri State College. Barb married Ernie Letterman on June 6, 1970. After college, Barb worked at Head Start in Warrensburg, Missouri. When they began their family, Barb became a full time mother and homemaker. They moved to Lee’s Summit in 1977. God has always been an important part of Barb’s life. She has been an active lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church, holding the office of Elder. Barb was preceded in death by her mother Florence in 1973, her father, Robert in 1985, and her brother-in-law, Bob Hanson in 1997. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ernie, daughters, Amy Estep (Jeremy) and Rebecca Roberts (Jamie), and grandchildren, Case and Samara Estep, brother, Bob Watkins (Jane), sister, Kim Fisher (Alan) and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Heartland Hospice along with special friends Rose Calder, LaDon Dial, and Patt Tosser. Words cannot convey how thankful we are for the love and care shown to Barb.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday, April 14 and Celebration of Life service will begin at 10 am, Friday, April 15 at 10:00 am at the Lee’s Summit Community of Christ Church, 1101 NE Independence Ave., Lee’s Summit, MO 64086. The family will also receive visitors one hour prior to the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, Barb has requested donations to an educational fund for her grandchildren. The donations may be made to the Lee’s Summit Community of Christ Church, address listed above.
