Dr. Alwyn F. Lewis, 90, of Independence, MO passed away on April 24, 2007 at the Carmel Hills Living Center. A memorial visitation will take place from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Dr. Lewis was born on December 23, 1916 in Manchester, England to Dr. Fredrick and Marion Lewis, and came to America at the age of three. Dr. Lewis has lived in Independence most of his life, graduating from William Chrisman H.S., and received his Pre-Med at Washburn University. Dr. Lewis graduated from the University of Health Sciences of Osteopathic Medicine in 1941. He started practice in Osceola, MO, and returned to Independence two years later to practice Family Medicine until his retirement in 1992. Dr. Lewis was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Missouri Osteopathic Association, the Jackson County Osteopathic Association, and was also a member of the Alumni at the University of Health Sciences of Osteopathic Medicine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Lewis; a daughter, Barbara Ann; his sister, Doreen Ettinger Sweeting; and one grandson, Daniel Robinson. Dr. Lewis is survived by his two daughters, Linda Bullard and Kay Johnson; three granddaughters, Shelly Sherman and husband Doug, Barbara Beamgard and husband Rodnie, and Kimberly Ball; eleven great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.
