Norma Jean “Nini” Lewis, 67, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Independence Manor Care Center. Cremation. Private Services. Norma was born November 6, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to William Benjamin and Neoma Vida (Mathis) Lewis. She graduated from Van Horn High School in 1959. Her school activities included National Honor Society, Athenians, Latin Club Secretary, Seamaids, Girls Choir and Pep Club. Ms. Lewis went on to attend Mt. St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS and graduated from Avila College in 1968. She taught K-3 for 20 years in both the public and private schools. She worked as a part-time librarian at the Mid-Continent Public Library Distribution Center and part-time for 12 years at the Frontier Trails Center. Ms. Lewis enjoyed plays, musicals, concerts, movies, shopping and dancing. She had a passion for children. Norma had a dream of writing children’s books and opening a children’s museum will be forever in our hearts. A favorite family memory was Norma driving to school and picking up her friends in a baby blue ’53 Chevy Belaire convertible with a continental kit. “Oh Dad, we should have kept it!” You’ll forever be in our hearts, Nini! Norma is survived by her brother William Benjamin “E” Lewis, Jr.; nieces Becky, Brenda, Bridget and Bobbi; five great-nieces Kiara, Anna, Karli, Kali and Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents.
