Betty Rose Liedeke, 83, passed to her Heavenly Father’s arms at 9:20 pm, January 14, 2011 from Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg, MO.
Born Betty Rose Cook, December 29, 1927 to Charles Boswell and Minnie Rosetta (Simmons) Cook in Independence, MO. She was raised on the family farm in Lee’s Summit, MO and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1945. She met Warren Dale Wheatley in 1947 and they were married on November 28, 1947. The union produced seven children. Betty met and married Leonard Liedeke on September 24, 1999 and moved to Warrensburg, MO in 2003. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and played for many services and events for the Church of Christ Restored in Centerview, MO.
She was a master seamstress, tailor and craftsperson. Betty ran her own business, The Stitch Witch, for twenty years in Lee’s Summit, repairing and creating articles of clothing. The many bridal gowns, coats and dresses she made attest to her skill and design capabilities. Betty was an avid quilter and enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends as well as retail customers. She also enjoyed knitting, embroidery, glass painting and calligraphy. She also self-published a book of her short stories.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie Rosetta; brother, Leonard Cook; sister, Ruth McClain; and her daughter, Marlene Rose Dyck.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard of Warrensburg, MO; six of her children, Charles LeRoy Wheatley, Independence, MO; Kenneth Warren Wheatley, Dallas, TX; Darrel Wayne Wheatley, Auburn, ME; Luanne Elaine Hanford, Dallas, TX; Brent Randall Wheatley, Olathe, KS; and Beth Dalene Martens, Lee’s Summit, MO; step children, Dee Wenzel, Garner, NC; and Dwayne Liedeke of Florence, CO; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Burial will follow at Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
