Gladys Lock, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, January 16 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave.. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 17 at Rulo Cemetery in Rulo, NE.
Gladys was born September 23, 1923 in Fargo, NE to Henry and Josie Nissen. She moved to Independence in 1961 with her husband, James Howard Lock. Gladys retired from the Kansas City School District where she had worked as a baker for many years. She was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene, cooking for many of the events held there. With no surprise, Gladys enjoyed cooking and baking in her spare time, teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband James Howard Lock and two sons: Charles Eugene Lock and Steven James Lock. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karolyn and Larry Ogden; four grandchildren: Mike Ogden, Sherri Briner, Pamela Ogden, and Staci Proffitt; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister and brother-in-law Dolly and Kenneth McWain.
