Robert Lee Long, 90 of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Villages of Jackson Creek. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. Private family interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Donations may be made in his name to Crossroads Hospice. Robert was born February 5, 1925 in Winston, MO to Ray A. and Effie (Brown) Long. He had worked as a buyer for Sears and Roebuck Company for 40 years until he retired in 1980. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and home repair projects. He was a charter member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church and maintained an active and faithful membership throughout his life. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII from 1943-45. He was married to Martha C. (Martin) on November 4, 1945; she preceded him in death in 2006. He later married Bettie (Afflack) who survives him. Other survivors include: 2 sons, Bob Long and wife Cheryl and Gary Long and wife Shirley all of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Marty, Cara, Mindy, Pamela, Sean and Lindsay and 4 great grandchildren, Evan, Luke, Amelia and Alex.
