Louis Paul Brammer II passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026 surrounded by family. He was born on February 3, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Louis and Anna (Lear) Brammer, and was widely known by his initials “LP” or middle name Paul, because to him “Louis is my dad”. It was later in life he fully embraced being known as Louis, which was affectionately transformed into “Louie” in certain social circles.
He attended East Kansas City High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, dance partner, and future wife Vivian Lou Otts. They both graduated in the class of 1953 and Louis went on to Kansas City Junior College, graduating with a two-year Associates of Science degree. He and Vivian were married February 10, 1956 and to this union were born two children.
Louis started his career right out of high school as a Mechanical Drafter for Westinghouse Corporation, followed by 39 ½ years as a Mechanical Designer for Black & Veatch Consulting Engineers once he had obtained his degree. He retired in 1996.
From a young age, Louis had an interest in firearms, which he harnessed into a lifetime of collecting, target shooting, and teaching safe handling & use to others. He was an unwavering defender of our constitutional freedoms, including becoming an expert marksman, Range Master during his tenure in the Navy Reserves, and making many trips to Jefferson City to lobby our elected officials. He was an active member of several firearms rights organizations and collector’s clubs, and performed for 26 years as the Membership Secretary for Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association.
A few years after loosing his wife Vivian, Louis discovered Knuckleheads in Kansas City’s East Bottoms District. While not a drinker, he was still a dancer, and so began his 20 some years of weekends enjoying blues music and tearing up the dance floor. It didn’t take long for him to become “Louie the old dancing dude” to regular patrons and musicians. A safe partner for all the married and single ladies because he just wanted to dance, while waiting to be with Vee again.
He will be dearly missed by family, firearms enthusiasts, and the blues music lovers of Kansas City.
Louis is survived by son Louis Paul Brammer III; son Christopher James Brammer and his wife Anne; grandchildren Jadyn, Sawyer, Taylor, and Andrew and his wife Mariah; great-grandson Liam; nephew Robert Otts and his wife Judy; and niece Aimee Otts.
He was preceded in death in 2000 by his one and only true love Vivian Lou (Otts) Brammer, 25 years absent, but always in his heart. They are dancing together once again.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to The Gun Owner's of America or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
