Louise Oleen Smith

Louise Oleen Smith, 94, of Independence, MO, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023. Louise was born on December 18, 1928, in Independence, MO to Staurt and Emma (Meggers) Tandberg. She graduated from Omaha Technical High School and went on to complete her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UMKC. In 1950, Louise married Lawrence “Larry” Smith. She taught Senior English at Raytown High School for 23 years, was a member of MO Teacher’s Association, Young Matrons, and President of Jackson County Teachers of English.

Louise is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Larry and her parents, including stepfather, Leon Steckel.

She is survived by her daughters, Lenza Smith and Lora Cox; grandchildren, Oshiana Lindsley, Jason (Andi) Osiek and Sara (Brent) Davidson; and great-grandchildren, Milla, Collin, Elaine, Hailey and Alexa.

There will not be a visitation or memorial service at this time.
