Obituary

Lowell Dean Nicholls, known affectionately to many as Dean, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Blue Springs, Missouri. Born on March 24, 1934, in McFall, Missouri, Dean graced this world with his presence for 92 remarkable years.

Dean earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, an academic achievement that laid the foundation for a fruitful and committed career. For over 30 years, he worked with Bendix, retiring in 1985 from a supervising position, where he was respected for his leadership and reliability.

Beyond his professional life, Dean pursued several personal interests that deeply enriched his life and family. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting quail, duck, and deer, activities that connected him closely with the outdoors. He proudly supported his sons through their scouting adventures, displaying steadfast encouragement and involvement. True to his gentle nature, Dean was soft-spoken and friendly, always welcoming a good conversation. His jokes and sense of humor brought laughter to those he kept near.

A man who took pride in his cooking, Dean found joy and satisfaction in preparing meals for himself and his loved ones. However, his greatest treasures were his family and especially his wife, Lois. Their bond was enduring and heartfelt—Dean and Lois met in their teenage years and married in 1953. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion. Dean adored Lois and was immensely proud of her accomplishments. Their love extended naturally to their children and grandchildren; Dean and Lois spent countless cherished hours watching over their grandchildren as they grew, marking some of the happiest times in their lives. Dean’s family was his proudest accomplishment, a testament to the man he was—devoted, caring, and full of quiet pride in those he loved most. His warmth and kindness will remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Dean's passing was preceded by his parents, Ival and Hazel Nicholls; his best friend and wife, Lois Nicholls; their son, David Nicholls; and his siblings, Eileen, Evelyn, Crystal, Dick, Lester, Beverly, and John. His legacy of love and laughter lives on through his children, Stephen "Steve" Nicholls (Melodye), Richard "Rick" Nicholls (Beth), and Susan Klein (Dennis); his grandchildren, Jared, Cassie, Justin, Jacob, Brandon, Megan, Paige, and Mia; his great grandchildren, Mason, Kaci, Logan, Fallon, Joshua, Jorden, Jaytyn, Mykaylah, Benjamin, Ace, and Nikolet; and his adored canine companion, Bella.

Funeral services to honor Dean’s life will be held on April 8, 2026, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Miriam Cemetery in Bethany, Missouri, beginning at 3:30 PM.
