Lucas Kenneth Schmechel

Lucas Kenneth Schmechel passed away on September 2, 2024 at 11:01 pm at Centerpoint Medical Center surrounded by his family, friends, and loved ones. His final act was helping others via the gift of organ donation.
Luke was born on August 14, 1993 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, KS to Kenneth and Jean Schmechel. On November 6th, 2000 he was blessed with a baby brother, Aaron Schmechel, whom he loved and protected with all of his being. He had recently found true love with his girlfriend, Shelby, and was in the process of building a future together with her. Luke loved animals, particularly Chico, his rescue dog and best friend for many years.
Luke graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 2012 where he was a member of the track team. His primary employer was Performance Food Services where he earned his CDL and worked as a semi truck driver but he also contributed considerable time and effort to The Hunt Family Foundation, selling raffle tickets in their 50/50 charity initiative. When he wasn’t working, Luke enjoyed hiking, fishing, kayaking, video games, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his friends and family, especially Shelby. He also held a great love for music, Jelly Roll was his favorite artist.
Lucas was preceded in death by his sister Ann Marie Schmechel, Paternal Grandparents Roland and Jean Schmechel, his Maternal grandfather Eugene David Cary and his beloved dog Chico.
He is survived by his mother Jean Schmechel, father Kenneth (Pam) Schmechel, brother Aaron Schmechel, Stepbrother Seth Farnsworth, Stepsister Savannah (Jordan) Kincaid, maternal grandmother Louann Cary, girlfriend Shelby Hurst, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many Friends.
A visitation will be held at from 1-2pm on Saturday September 21st, 2024 at Speaks Suburban Chapel located at 18020 E. 39th Street S. Independence, MO 64055. His celebration of life will begin at 2pm.
