Edward Russell Lynn, 73, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2010. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 22 at Mount Moriah Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, May 21 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to St. Jude. Edward was born June 5, 1936, in Independence, MO to Russell M. and Gladys E. Lynn. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1954. During his youth he participated in the Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school graduation he began his career at Armco Steel as an instrument repairman. He attended and was President of the management class at Armco Steel. While employed at Armco he enrolled in college courses and graduated with a degree in Business and Economics from UMKC in 1967. He retired from Armco Steel in 1985 as Superintendent of the Blooming Mills, capping a 31-year career. Ed worked at Colt Technology until his second retirement in 1999. In October 1957, he was united in marriage to Rose Sara Sommers. They later moved to Raytown, MO. Ed was elected City Alderman and also served as Mayor Pro-tem and police liaison. Ed loved the outdoors. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, horses, and trap shooting. As an animal lover he adopted wild horses and burrows from herd reduction round-ups. Ed constantly bragged about his three granddaughters and their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose and their three children: Lori Campbell and husband Roger and their children Stephanie, Michelle and Lisa Campbell, Edward Russell Lynn II, and Joseph P. Lynn and wife Leslie. He also leaves behind many long time and cherished friends. Edward is survived by siblings, Patricia Converse, Robert Lynn and James Lynn.
