Mae Carol Stathas, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, in Shawnee, Kansas, surrounded by love. Born on July 22, 1937, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Mae grew up to embody a spirit of kindness and warmth that she shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Throughout her life, Mae demonstrated an unwavering dedication to her family, which she cherished above all else. As a loving mother and as a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, she took great pride in fostering close relationships with each of them. Those close to her were fortunate to know Mae's loving personality, which radiated warmth in every interaction.

Mae's career included working at Marion Merrill Dow on the line, yet it was her life outside of work that truly defined her. Mae had many interests that brought her joy. She frequently visited the YMCA with friends, where laughter and camaraderie filled her days. In her leisure time, she enjoyed painting, playing cards, and was an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs. Mae found solace in the soothing melodies of older country music, with George Jones being one of her favorites and tending to her flowers.

Mae is survived by her brother, Gary Russell; daughter, Lynda Wakefield, son, Tom Stathas (Carol); grandchildren, Jason Wakefield (Tara), Annette Stathas-Frank (Jared), Paul Stathas (Ashley), Philip Barrett (Hannah), Shannon Rogers ( Q*Bert), Lee Barrett (Stephanie), Jessieca Barrett; 22 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Great Grandchildren, Many nieces nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie L. Stathas in 2001 and her parents, Charles Russell and Frances Chance.

As we reflect on her life, we remember the many ways she nurtured and supported those around her. Mae possessed an innate ability to spread love and positivity wherever she went, making her proudest accomplishments her family, who continue to honor her legacy of love and compassion.

A visitation will be held in her honor on December 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052. A graveside service will take place at Mt. Washington Cemetery following the service.

Mae Carol Stathas leaves a profound impact on the lives she touched, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
