Gomer Maitland, 74, died May 15, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, IA. Gomer was born in Ava, MO. He served in the U.S. Airforce during the last part of the Korean War in the 1950’s. Gomer was a life-long member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gomer Evan and Viola B. Maitland; and two step brothers, Leroy and Billy Maitland. He is survived by two daughters, Marlene Beard (Mark) of Lockwood, MO and Patty Webb (Tom) of Webb City, MO; grandchildren, Phallin Jennings (Stephen), Nicholas Beard, Andrew Smith and Marissa Fields; four great grandchildren, Grace, Heidi and Emma Jennings and Hallie Beard; one sister, Elnora Palmer (Paul) of Independence, MO; two brothers, Samuel Maitland (Vanice) and Arthur Maitland, both of Independence, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:00-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with a service to follow at 10:30 a.m., May 20, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Mound Grove Cemetery.
