Margaret Marie Barron

Margaret Marie Barron, 94 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at her residence.  Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the St. Mark Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.  There will be a rosary recited at 10-10:30 a.m., following the rosary the family will greet friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., Friday at the church.  Margaret was born February 21, 1930 in Sugar Creek, MO to George and Susie (Firic) Smitka.  She has been a lifelong area resident and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948.  She was a beloved mother and homemaker.  After she had raised her children, she became the gym supervisor for Sugar Creek Gym and worked there for 22 years until she retired.  She was a longtime member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church and later St. Mark Catholic Church. Margaret also volunteered for countless years at the Sermon/Palmer Center in Independence. She would call tables, work in the kitchen call Bingo, she would do anything she could do to help, and enjoyed every minute of it. She is survived by; her children, Dianne Welsh and husband Butch of Independence, MO, Gregory Barron and wife Mary of Allenspark, CO, LeeAnn Mader and husband Michael of Olathe, KS and Julie Barron and husband Donald of Liberty, MO; 9 grandchildren, Marie, Matthew, John Paul, Michael, James and Leah Mader, Rachael (Welsh) Baker and husband Grant, Brooke and Courtney Barron; 2 sister-in-law’s, Rose Smitka and Carol Smitka and many nieces nephews and dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 8 siblings.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Carson-Speaks Chapel (816) 252-7900)
