Independence

Margaret “Peggy” Lee Tomlin, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, after losing a hard fought 2 plus years battle with several serious health issues.  She was 81.  Peggy was born January 6, 1943, in Kansas City, MO to Bill and Mary McDonald.

Peggy graduated from East High School in 1961 where she met her future husband, Dean.  In the early years of their marriage, she stayed at home to raise her 2 sons John and Michael.   When the boys were older, she began her 20-year career with the federal government.  She worked for the VA Medical Center, the National Weather Service Severe Storms Forecast Center and finally retiring from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.  During the middle of her career Peggy was able to finish her 4-year degree in Business from Columbia College.  She was extremely proud of this accomplishment.  Peggy had a feisty personality, was an avid reader and a lover of all dogs.  She also enjoyed a hotdog off the grill, a cold diet coke and a white fluff filled long John from Lamar’s.  Peggy deeply loved her husband Dean, her sons, her grandchildren and her siblings.   She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Peggy is survived by her sons John Tomlin (Sara) and Michael Tomlin (Becky); niece Melanie Haas (David); 7 grandchildren Jared, Ryan (Alexis), Brandon (Gigi), Anne (Peter), Ali (Jerry), Matthew (Jordon) and Gracie; 2 great grandchildren Sagan and Nova; and her sisters Mary Francis Alumbaugh and Beth Connor.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dean, her parents, Bill and Mary McDonald, her brother Bill McDonald and many of her closest friends.

The family will have a private graveside service.  Cremation arrangements are in the care of Speaks Suburban Chapel.
