Marie M. McDaniel

Marie M. McDaniel, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 26, 2026, at the age of 97. Born November 13, 1928, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to Joseph and Agnes Mahfouz, Marie lived a remarkable life spanning nearly a century, defined by family, faith, hard work, and community.

She was raised in Stuttgart, where she attended local schools before continuing her education at Draughon School of Business in Little Rock, Arkansas.

In 1960, Marie and her family moved to Independence, Missouri, where she would make her home for more than five decades. In 2016, she moved to Platte City, Missouri, to live with her grandchildren, Henry Keith and Kris McDaniel. In her final years, she made her home in Greenwood, Missouri, with her son, Henry L. McDaniel, Jr.

Throughout her life, Marie held a variety of positions that reflected both her abilities and her strong work ethic. She worked as an accountant, spent time working on the assembly line at Ford, and ultimately retired from a career in early childhood education with the Independence School District.

Marie was deeply involved in her church, community, and fraternal organizations. She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Independence and was active in the East Gate Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Social Order of the Beauceant, and the Ladies Oriental Shrine.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. McDaniel, Sr.; and her sons, James J. McDaniel and Robert W. McDaniel.

She is survived by her son, Henry L. McDaniel, Jr.; her daughter, Angelia Smith; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; Stanley Forman; Leslie McFarland; and the many members of her extended and chosen family whose lives she touched.

Marie’s life spanned nearly a century of extraordinary change, but the things that mattered most to her endured: family, faith, hard work, community, and the relationships she built along the way. She leaves behind generations of family and friends who will carry her memory, her stories, and her influence with them.
