Marilyn Ruth Umsted passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 at Cedarhurst Senior Living of Blue Springs. 

Marilyn was born to parents Nels and Ruth Schill on January 12, 1933 in Callender, IA. She graduated in 1950 from Harcourt High School in Iowa where she was top of her class and a standout basketball player. 

She married Roger Umsted in 1951. They had 3 children, Ricky, Randy & Roma. Marilyn was employed at the Farm Bureau in Iowa, Montgomery Wards in Kansas City and as a bookkeeper for many years at Stephenson's Apple Orchard. After retirement she did volunteer work for many years. She was active in her church Glenwood Park United Methodist and later Christ United Methodist both in Independence, MO. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, son, Ricky, her parents, her sisters Lois Klingson & Betty Anderson. She is survived by her son, Randy (Ada) Umsted of Fort Worth, TX and Roma (Martin) Prins of Independence, MO, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
