Raymond A. Martel, 80, of Independence, MO passed away May 15, 2012. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, at the Suburban Chapel, with burial to follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Raymond was born August 12, 1931 in St. Mary’s, Kansas to John and Eva (Brungardt) Martel. In his younger years, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad. Most recently he worked as a concrete truck driver until his retirement. For many years, Raymond had been an umpire for the American Legion in Blue Springs and surrounding areas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Pauline (Calvin) Martel. He is survived by his six children, Raymond Martel, Jr., Pauline Moyer, Patty Hazelrigg, Jim Martel, Bob Martel and Paula Rumsey; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Martel; and sister, Virginia Owens.
