Mary Josephine Smith, affectionately known as Mary Jo, passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by love in Independence, Missouri. Born on November 13, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Jo lived a full and enriching life, deeply rooted in her family and community.
She was the daughter of Frederick G. and Mary V. Inbody, both of whom preceded her in death. Mary Jo's legacy is carried forward by her beloved husband, J. Wayne Smith, and her cherished daughters, Connie Highfill and her husband Tony, and Beth Roberts and her husband Brent. Additionally, she was a proud grandmother to Rachel Roberts, Lauren Roberts, and Reagan Roberts, each of whom adored her and will carry her spirit with them.
A visitation will be held in her honor on May 10, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Carson-Speaks Chapel, located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052. This will be followed by a memorial service starting at 10:00 AM at the same location. The day will conclude with a graveside service following her memorial service at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, 18301 E Salisbury Rd, Independence, MO 64056.
Mary Jo's warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
