Mary Marcine Truitt

Mary Marcine (Chappelow) Truitt, 97, passed away at home with her loving daughters by her side on February 12, 2024.

She was born March 14, 1926, to Raymond James and Velva Arvilla (Horne) Chappelow. Mary had three older brothers, Raymond Jr., William (Bill) and Fred.

Mary graduated from William Chrisman High School in May 1944. She worked ten years for Southwestern Bell and AT&T until 1951.

She met her loving husband, Leo, in 1947 at the Bridge Cafe in Independence, Missouri. They owned the Bridge Cafe for 38 years before retiring in January 1984.

On May 7, 1949, Mary and Leo were united in marriage and were married for 66 years at the time of Leo's passing on December 3, 2015. They welcomed their twins, Carolyn and Marilyn on May 12, 1951.

Mary was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Independence where she was baptized on October 21, 1962.

Her hobbies included tending to her beautiful flowers. Mary's greatest joy was her family and attending the grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, school activities and family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, parents, brothers, great-granddaughter, Saylor Johnson, and many brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Mary is survived by her daughters Carolyn Johnson (Rod) and Marilyn Reinhard. Her grandchildren Jennifer Ward (Micah), Brett Reinhard (Andrea), Neil (Shelly) Johnson, Jeff Reinhard and Lindsey (Cole) Amaya and great-grandchildren Kylee, Kaylyn and Lukas Ward, Xander, Ollie, Madison and Aryn Johnson, Jude Reinhard, Harlow Auvigne, Brecken and Camden Amaya, and great-great-granddaughter, Skylyn Ward-Talcott. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Mary will be remembered for her love, kindness and inspiration she brought to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but our beautiful memories of her will forever be with us.

A memorial service for Mary will be held on March 4, 2024, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by the celebration of life service at 10:30 am. After the service, the burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 701 S. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice, 783 NE Anderson Lane, Lee's Summit, MO 64064.
