Mary Alice Washington, beloved wife, mother, and friend, went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2023, in North Kansas City at the age of 83. She was born on March 15, 1940, in Ottawa, Kansas to her loving parents. Mary Alice was known for her strength, fighting spirit, kind heart, and her unwavering ability to speak her mind. 

Mary Alice proudly taught herself valuable skills that would shape her future. She conquered the art of typing with unparalleled grace and precision, allowing her to excel in various professional endeavors. Her unwavering commitment to education saw her putting herself through school and passing the federal test, a testament to her indomitable spirit. Mary dedicated many years of her life working as a clerk for the IRS. Her meticulousness and attention to detail made her an invaluable asset to the organization. Her commitment to excellence was recognized by both colleagues and superiors alike. Mary's dedication and hard work left a lasting impact on those she worked with. Alongside her dedication to learning, Mary Alice had an extraordinary talent for music. She devoted herself to mastering the organ, showcasing an innate musical ability that brought joy to those who heard her play.

Outside of her professional life, Mary found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for food and loved nothing more than indulging in her daughter's delicious cooking. Whether it was a warm family meal or a special occasion celebration, Mary's face would light up with delight whenever food was involved. She also enjoyed the convenience of ordering food delivery - a modern convenience that became one of her guilty pleasures.

Mary will always be remembered as a loving soul who cherished the company of family and friends. Her kindest heart touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a pillar of strength during tough times and a lifelong supporter through thick and thin. Whether it was offering words of encouragement or lending a helping hand, Mary had an innate ability to provide solace whenever someone needed it most.

Mary is preceded in death by her son, Daniel Maurice Carter. She is survived by her children; Carmelita Carter, Carmilla Collins, and Gregory Cork.

Services to honor Mary's memory will be held at Carson-Speaks Chapel located at 1501 W Lexington Ave in Independence, MO on September 7th, 2023. A visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Mary Alice Washington's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of strength, courage, and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us. May her soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that she touched the lives of so many with her unwavering love and compassion.
