Susie Mason, 70, of Bates, City, MO passed away Monday, July 14, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 18th at First Baptist Church of Bates City; 200 E Z Hwy. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery, Fort Osage, MO.
Susie was born December 22, 1943 in San Diego, CA, raised by Charles and Nova (Thatch) Bachrach as one of five children. On November 25, 1979, at Six Mile Baptist Church, she married her best friend, Doug E. Mason. She worked as a bus driver for Fort Osage before becoming the first female truck driver for Standard Oil working third shift for over 12 years. Sue and Doug enjoyed bowling, alcohol dragster racing, farming, and attending the Baptist congregations of Six Mile, First Baptist of Buckner and most recently Bates City. She loved children and supported her congregation’s VBS and mission trips. Sue is loved and will be missed. She is survived by her husband; daughter Faith Tootle (Martin) of Dixon, MO; son, Charles Mericle of Oak Grove, MO; daughter Bridgett Neeley of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Vickie, Paul, Jennifer, Tara, Susanne, Amanda, Kasidi, Kylee, Samuel, and Emily; great grandchildren, Jourdan, Tyler, Megan, MacKenzie, Brody, Tinley, and Christy; brothers, Bob and Woody Mathis, and Charles and Jim Staples; and her beloved kitty, Tiger. She was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved daughter, Christy Mericle.
