Gloria Maxine Maupin, 87, Independence, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in Springfield, Missouri.
Mrs. Maupin was born to Rose and Orville Smith on August 13, 1923 in Independence, MO. She was a graduate of William Chrisman High School. She served in several clerical positions in the Kansas City area, but enjoyed most of all, her time as an elementary school secretary for the Independence School District, from which she retired. She loved playing cards, cooking and watching the Royals. First Baptist Church, Independence was her childhood and adult church home until she and her husband, Howard Maupin, moved to the Susquehanna area. There they joined Susquehanna Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Howard Maupin, as well as two brothers and a sister. Her survivors include two sons, Ronald H Maupin and wife Sandra, Bolivar, MO and James R. Maupin and wife Lisa, Las Cruces, NM; two granddaughters and one grandson, Shonda K Folsom and husband, Clinton, Big Spring, Texas, Sarah J Bond-Maupin, Las Cruces, NM, Scot Maupin and wife Misha, San Francisco CA; one sister, Mary E. Klein, Independence, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10am Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO; burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 Friday night at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be either given to the New Mexico State University Student Honorary Society of Alpha Phi Sigma or Southwest Baptist University General Scholarship Program.
