George L. Maxwell, 86, of Independence, MO passed away, Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 9-10:00 a.m. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. George was born August 16, 1921 in Gentry, MO to Samuel A. and Bessie A. (Canady) Maxwell. He proudly served in the U.S. Civil Service during WWII at Pearl Harbor. Mr. Maxwell was a lifelong member of the #78 Masonic Lodge and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. George retired from Armco Steel after 25 years of service as a Heater in the #12 Mill. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Velma (Wilson) Maxwell; daughters and sons-in-law Marilyn and Jim Minor, Kathy and Ron Ripps; granddaughters Audrey Powell, Natalie Stewart, Amber Breunig; great-grandchildren Anna, Anthony, Savannah and Sadie; sister Helen Smith and husband Gerald; brother-in-law Kenneth Smith; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. George was preceded in death by his sister Frances Smith.
