William “Mel” Mayeaux, 79 passed away May 7, 2007 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening where there will be a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice. Mel was born in Hessmer, LA on January 11, 1928 to Denis and Eugine (DeGlandon) Mayeux. He was a World War II Navy veteran and had moved to Kansas City after his discharge from the service. He retired from Sheetmetal Workers Union #2 after 52 years and had most recently worked as a superintendent for Natkin and Company. He was a 50 years member of the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church where he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, was a scout leader and a member of American Legion Post #21 in Independence. He is survived by Kathryn, his loving wife of 59 years; a daughter, Eileen Manes and her husband Ron of Lee’s Summit, son Dennis and wife Terri of Lee’s Summit, MO, daughter, Melanie Crews and her husband Kevin if Independence, MO, a son, John and his wife Cheryl of Independence, MO, son Jim and his wife Rita of Independence, MO, daughter Melissa of Kansas City, MO, son William and wife Yoshiko of Waipahu, Hawaii. Mel also has 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mel is also survived by a brother, Amos Mayeaux and sister Gloria Benandi of New Orleans, LA. The family wishes to thank Dr. Maliszewski and his nurse Margaret for the continued loving care and support of Mel and his family through the years.
