Mary Ursuline Mayer, 86 of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Vitas Hospice at Research Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Wednesday at the church. Mary was born February 25, 1926 in Fort Dodge, IA to John Leo and Josephine (Greenwell) Grannan and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Fort Dodge in 1944. She was a beloved wife mother and homemaker who enjoyed playing bridge, tennis and golf. She was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. She was married to Duane Mayer on April 17, 1948; he survives of the home. Other survivors include; 4 children, Mike Mayer and wife Cindy of Polk City, IA, Jackie Dare and husband Norm of Des Moines, IA, Jeff Mayer and wife Cindy of Norwalk, IA and Joe Mayer and wife M.J. of Topeka, KS; a sister, Bettie Gormally of Fort Dodge, IA; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
