Betty Mae Dunn McBride, 87, Lee’s Summit, Mo., passed away Thursday night at Lee’s Summit Hospital. She had survived cancer for nearly three years. A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence, Mo. Cremation is planned with a visitation from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening, September 14, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel on 39th Street and Highway 291, Independence. Mrs. McBride was born on Feb. 14, 1921, in Lawrence, KS. She graduated from Lawrence High School and received an associate’s degree from Fort Dodge, Kansas Community College. She raised her family in Independence, Mo., working as an executive secretary, principally in the construction industry. While a resident in New Orleans in the 1960s Mrs. McBride was chapter chairperson of New Orleans Women in Construction chapter. Mrs. McBride was active in church activities, principally as member of the church choir and as a director of the youth choir and ensembles at the Independence, Mo., First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. McBride was an avid Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred Dunn, both of Independence and her brother, Dallas Dunn. Survivors include her sons and their wives: Gordon and Cathy McBride, Lake Lotawana; Allan and Patsy McBride, Hattiesburg, Miss.; two brothers, John B. Dunn and William H Dunn, Jr., both of Kansas City; a sister, Mrs. Judith Glaspey, Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
