Billy Dean McCarty, 81, Independence, MO passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his home.
Bill was born March 11, 1931 in Cross Timbers, MO the son of John and Edith (Admire) McCarty. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served as a tank commander during the Korean War. Bill worked for the American Can Co. for 22 years and later retired from General Motor Leads Plant after 12 years. He continued working for the Independence Housing Authority where he retired in 1988. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church and was a deacon emeritus. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping with his family.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Lewis; brothers, Clifford, Orval, and Dan McCarty.
Survivors include his loving wife Lois of 57 years; daughters, Kim Spooner and husband Randy, Teresa Ballard and husband Randy; son Bill McCarty; grandchildren, Megan Williams, Daniel Ballard, David McCarty, Jesse Ulrich; one great grandson, Ashton Williams; sisters, Betty Doremus, and Mary Jane Salmon; brothers, Warren Gene, Larry, and Floyd McCarty; and numerous nieces, nephews and family.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the First Christian Church; 125 S. Pleasant, Independence, MO with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
