James “Jay” Russell McClain, 93, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, November 30, 2009, at his winter home in San Benito, TX. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at Fairmount Christian Church. Visitation will precede from 10:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the church. Donations may be made to Fairmount Christian Church 641 South Ash Ave., Independence, MO 64053-1817. Jay was born September 22, 1916 in South Fulton, TN, one of 10 children to Rev. James Robert and Katherine (Scurlock) McClain. He attended William Chrisman High School and joined the Merchant Marines where he served during WWII. He enjoyed golfing, woodcarving, building houses, was a Boy Scout leader and had traveled extensively outside of the U.S. He was a member and former Deacon of the Fairmount Christian Church where he taught Sunday School classes and was a member of the YMP Sunday school Class. He had worked at Ford Motor Company for over 30 years before he retired in 1977. He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Anderson and had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Other survivors include: a daughter, Christine McClain of Ferrisburg, VT; a son, Paul McClain and his wife Heidi of Littleton, CO and two grandchildren, Ned McClain and his wife Sarah and Brad McClain and his wife Krista all of Boulder, CO.
