Richard E. McClain, Sr., 75, of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday, February 21, 2010 at his residence. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Entombment will be in Mound Grove Cemetery Mausoleum. Donations may be made to the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010 and from 10:00 a.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel. Richard was born July 30, 1934 in Inkster, MI to Raymond E. and Mary Estelle (Havens) McClain. He grew up in Michigan graduated from public school in Dearborn, MI and later graduated from CMSU with a degree in engineering. He proudly served in the US Army from 1957-59 as an engineer. He had worked for over 34 years as an engineer for AT&T, later Lucent Technologies until he retired in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Royals and the Chiefs, cruises, camping and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Beacon Heights Community of Christ Church, where he held the office of priest. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jacqueline (Schultz); four children, Richard E. McClain II of Raytown, MO, Sandra Lee Maselli of Lee’s Summit, MO, Karen Lynn Hacker and her husband, David of Independence, MO and Paul A. McClain and his wife Billie of Lee’s Summit, MO; three brothers, Robert McClain of Independence, MO, Earl McClain of Brennan, TX and Ronald McClain of Lincoln, MO; seven grandchildren, Sara Pikert, Andrew Hacker, Matthew Maselli, Ryan Hacker, Christina Maselli, Alex McClain and Erica McClain and two great grandchildren, Christopher McNurlin and Landen McNeil. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Babcock, a brother, Michael McClain and a daughter in law, Susan McClain.
