Michael Alan Mcdaniel

Michael Alan “Mike” McDaniel, of Independence, MO passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022. He was 65. A visitation will take place from 1-2pm with a 2pm funeral service on Friday, October 28th, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th St.; Independence, MO 64055. Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery in Independence.

Mike was born on March 30, 1957, in Oklahoma City, OK to James R. and Jamie “Jan” G. (York) McDaniel. He graduated from Van Horn High School in 1975. From the age of 7, Mike began working alongside of his dad at the Standard Oil station in Independence and continued in the fueling station business until starting McDaniel Trucking Company in 1986. He loved his business and operated with honesty and integrity earning the respect from his customers. Mike was the first one called when renovations needed to be done on the turf at Arrowhead Stadium.

In 1984, Mike married the love of his life and best friend, Sally. He adored time with his family and time working his property with Sally. He also shared his dad’s passion for hunting. Mike was quietly generous and humble, a city boy that became a country man with his strong frame and no nonsense disposition. He will be missed by so many that love him.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Sally; his daughter Tonia Marie (Brant) Highers of Portugal; grandchildren, Mischka and Brantley; sister, Marsha Gerry of Durango, CO; brother-in-law, Doug (Vickie) Howard of Adairsville, GA, sister-in-law, Pam (Tim) Compton of Holt, MO, brother-in-law, Barney (Kim) Howard of Independence, MO; several nieces and nephews; and a cat that misses him terribly, Charly.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, James and Jan McDaniel; his parents-in-law, Orville and Lorraine Howard; sister-in-law, Betsy Nelson; brother-in-law, Bob Nelson; and his four-legged companions, German short-haired hunting dogs, Reba, Spot, Ace, and Deuce; as well as, feline family, Puddytat, Patches, Tigger, Tuffy, Pebbles, and Lucy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners International or the American Lung Association.
